Look out! Use Wi-Fi internetan Can Damage Sperm

Internet connection without wires aka Wi-Fi is more practical because it allows one to go online anywhere. But for men, Wi-Fi have unexpected side effects that could damage the quality of sperm.

A study in Argentina showed, the quality of sperm exposed to Wi-Fi signals tend to be worse than others. This effect was not found in the sperm that are common around the Internet network, which is still using a cable.

In research published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, the scientists took sperm samples from 29 random men. Some are placed in a room that has a Wi-Fi signal, partly kept out of the Internet network.

Once left for 4 hours, sperm samples are then examined and analyzed in the laboratory. The scientists calculate the surviving sperm cells in each semen sample, then compared the level of damage to the structure of DNA (Droxyribo Nucleic Acid).

As many as 25 percent of sperm exposed to Wi-Fi signal is finally dead, while the sperm is far from an internet connection only 14 percent are dead. Likewise, the structure of DNA, 9 percent of sperm are exposed to Wi-Fi is damaged or 3 times higher than that far from an internet connection.

Conrado Avendano, scientists from Nascentis Medicina Reproductiva who conducted the study explains that the cause is an electromagnetic wave. Internet network without wires emit these waves, which then damage the male sperm.

"Our research shows that computers are connected to the Internet without wires can damage the sperm when placed close to the male reproductive organs," Avendano said in its report as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (29/11/2011).

The relationship between the Internet network without wires with sperm quality seems this newly studied. Various earlier studies linking more damage to sperm with heat generated by the computer itself, so that men are not encouraged to assume the laptop.
