Exercise Can Affect Child and Adolescent Intelligence

Jakarta, the achievement of children and adolescents in schools is not only determined by the outcome of learning. According to research, exercise habits also influential because physical activity can make the brain function and ability to grow better.

This was revealed in a study of 14 outcome studies ever conducted, involving no less than a total of 12,000 students aged 8-18 years. participants came from various countries especially the United States, Canada and South Africa.


In general, almost all studies conclude that physical activity during exercise is closely linked to achievement of the respondents. The more exercise, the better the academic achievement in school is marked with good grades in all subjects.

"We found very strong evidence related to the close relationship between physical activity with academic achievement," said Amika Singh of the Vrije Universiteit tersbeut who led the study, as quoted from HealthDay, Tuesday (01/03/2011).

According to the researchers, physical activity during exercise may increase blood flow to the brain. One of the functions of blood is to transport oxygen from the lungs, so the brain is always in a fit condition because it was never a lack of oxygen.

In addition, muscle movement throughout the body also stimulates the production of hormones that trigger a sense of calm, so that the concentration of learning in the classroom more awake. Some studies have even said, sporting a new form nerves that make the brain function increases.

However, scientists still have to investigate further to determine the most appropriate portion of sport to improve learning achievement. It is feared that if excessive exercise, students should feel tired and can not learn.
